Discover Scuba Diving
Have you always wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to try scuba diving, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is for you. PADI dive shops offer this program either in a pool, off a beach or from a dive boat. You can try scuba close to home or while you’re on vacation at a dive destination. While not a scuba certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.
To sign up for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, you must be at least 10 years old. No prior experience with scuba diving is necessary, but you need to be in reasonable physical health.
All it takes is an afternoon of your time. Bring a bathing suit and we take care of everything else! A short briefing about the physics and concepts of diving; followed by your first breaths underwater in the comfort and safety of a warm and shallow sea pool. Once you are comfortable and have mastered a few simple skills, you will be on your way to your first dive among the most beautiful and shallow reefs the Cayman Islands has to offer. Discover Scuba Diving dives have a maximum depth of 40 feet and your air and decompression times will be monitored by your instructor to allow you to just focus on diving and having a great experience. DNS Diving supplies all the equipment you need, and picks you up at your hotel or condo along Seven Mile beach. It takes approximately one afternoon of your time. Pick up at 12:15 p.m. and finished (first dive completed) by 3:00 p.m.
Once you complete your Discover Scuba Diving, you are able to come along and experience diving from one of our boats. If you choose to repeat and dive with us on the boat, there is always an instructor dedicated to you and any other DSD Divers. This ensures that you will have a safe and enjoyable experience as you take your diving to the next level on some of the healthiest reefs in the Caribbean.
PADI Open Water Certification
If you have already tried a DSD or know that diving is the sport for you, it’s time to get your PADI Open Water Scuba Certification. It’s the worlds most popular Scuba Course and is the first step into the great world of scuba diving. There are multiple options to make your certification a reality. Both options are designed to make sure that your certification is conducted safely and promptly to ensure the majority of your dive vacation will be spent diving.
Open Water Referral Online (eLearning)
With today’s technology, getting certified could not be easier. With the eLearning modules that PADI offers, you can complete all of the classroom work required for your OW (Open Water) certification from the comfort of your own home. Each Module is followed by a knowledge review and quiz. Once all modules have been completed you complete the OW online.
Upon arrival you will be 2 days away from your certification. Day 1 consists of the confined water skill sets, which take place in a swimming pool at our teaching location. Followed by open water dives 1 & 2. These dives are conducted from shore and consist of different skill work and time allotted for you to enjoy diving. The following day Dives 3 & 4 are conducted from the boat.
The Open Water Referral Certification includes pickup/drop-offs to and from your hotel or condo along Seven Mile beach, all equipment needed, and the 4 dives required for the certification. To sign up for e-learning, there is a $180 fee payable to PADI for the materials. Please affiliate with DNS Diving, Grand Cayman. All you have to do is follow this link:
Open Water Referral
If its time to get certified, but you aren’t sure about doing the check out dives in a lake, quarry or freshwater spring, an open water referral is the path for you. Complete the classroom and confined water (swimming pool work) with your local dive shop at home, but save the four open water check out dives to do with DNS in the warm and clear waters of Cayman.
Completing the certification only takes two days so you will be diving with the rest of the family in no time. The first day, dives 1 & 2 take place from our shore diving location. Here you will become comfortable with the water and the core skills that are required for diving, while also experiencing the tropical fish and corals of a shallow reef. The second day dives 3 & 4 are conducted from the boat. These dives consist of skills portions as well as time set aside just to dive with your instructor. It might be a little work to get certified, but there is always time for some fun. Once you breach the surface after your 4th dive you will officially be Open Water Certified.
The Open Water Referral Certification includes pickup/drop-offs to and from your hotel or condo on Seven Mile beach, all equipment needed, and the 4 dives required for the certification.
